Welcome to Mansfield Readers & Writers!

Mansfield Readers and Writers celebrates storytelling in all its forms. We run, support and promote events for readers and writers. Our flagstone event is the biennial Mansfield Readers & Writers Festival. We also run an annual writing competition, High Country Words.

Mansfield, in North East Victoria on Taungurung Country, is a small, vibrant town at the foothills of the High Country with an eclectic mix of people … a swinging electorate that thrives on tourism and farming. We have a great footy & netball club, an active arts community, Catholic/State/Steiner Primary Schools and a Secondary College, four churches, a hospital, a zoo, a huge autistic residency and education centre, a beautiful library, and many cafes. We have a lot of 4WDs, horses and wildlife, outlying settlements like Jamieson and Merrijig and the busiest shop in town is Mansfield Hunting and Fishing. We also love books.

Mansfield Readers & Writers Festival: Oct 11-12, 2025

Our next festival will be held October 11-12, 2025. We’re busy putting together an awesome program and wishlist of authors.

Starting in 2025, both competitions will run under this banner with categories for short story, poetry and bush poetry, and prizes awarded for open and local entries.
